The COSMOS Foundational Events

The COSMOS Foundational Events have been conceived as a stepping stone towards the creation of the full-fledged COSMOS New Media Institute. Through these events, we intend to create a community of students who would be interested to pursue the programme. It will also generate a resource base for like-minded people around the world who would be our future teachers, collaborators and partners – both institutional and individual.
The COSMOS New Media Institute will be operational from June 2006 in the city of Mumbai with a postgraduate programme in New Media Studies, offering a vast range of specialisations within a strong ‘generalist’ framework. Apart from training, the Institute will also have a research and a production wing.

What is New Media?

The phrase New Media came into prominence in the 1990s. It is associated with relatively recent mass media based on information-communication technologies. A career in New Media involves creative work that leads to innovative and interactive instructional and presentational materials. Such media is made for delivery to users via CD, DVD, hand-held mobile devices and the internet.
